US volcano teahouse named the biggest volcano in Nicaragua
NEW YORK — The Big Volcano in Nicaragua has officially become the most active volcano in the country, with its main lava lake reaching 8,500 feet (2,800 meters) high and its eruption is estimated to last for 30 days.
The eruption of the volcano in May 2017 triggered landslides and mudslides that caused millions of dollars of damage to the nearby town of El Olimpico, according to the National Institute of Mines and Geology.
The eruption also damaged several homes and caused widespread destruction of agricultural crops, according the institute.
The government announced a $7.5 million (US $5.3 million) reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the culprits behind the destruction.
