Indian tourist in Las Vegas volcano ‘wondered why’
A tourist from India in Las Vegas was among several people who were shocked when they saw a small rock fall from the top of a volcano.
The rocks fell from a volcano in the mountains west of the Las Vegas area in the state of Nevada.
Tourists were shocked to see rocks fall from an area known as Las Vegas Volcano and were asked to stay away, said a local tourist, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to the media.
“I thought that it was a freak event.
We were on a volcano tour.
It wasn’t a natural event.
There was no warning,” said the tourist, known only as Gopal.
He said the tourists were in the area for a hike when they heard a loud noise in the distance.
“There was no one around at the time, so we looked up.
It was just a small falling rock.
We thought maybe it fell from some rock falling from a tree or something like that,” he said.
Tourism has been a major business in the city since its foundation and the area around the volcano is popular with locals.
But, the tourist said, he had no idea what the rock was, and wondered why people were going there.
“When I saw the rock, I felt very nervous.
I was a little scared that someone might have fallen.
It looked like it could have been a small, dark object,” he added.
Tourist in Las Vegas says he has no idea where rock fell from mountain source CNN Philippines (India)”When we got there, we started asking locals.
They said that there was no sign of a fall.
I didn’t understand.
I asked them to look and see if they could tell me what was going on.
I told them it was very strange.
But when I saw that rock fall, I thought that someone had fallen from the mountain,” he continued.
The tourist was so shocked that he went to the scene to find out.
“The locals asked us to wait, so I went back and checked.
It had been there for a while and no one had been around, so there was nothing there,” he told CNN Philippines.
He also questioned why the rock fell in such a small area.
“They had a mountain here.
There’s no reason why the rocks couldn’t fall in the middle of that mountain,” Gopal said.
Gopal said that when he went back to the spot, he found the people there were also shocked.
“It was just unbelievable.
They were so shocked.
There were people standing there saying they couldn’t believe it.
The locals were so scared that they left the area,” he explained.
Touristic services in the region were also hit by the rock fall.
“We are not sure if it’s a natural phenomenon or not.
We are taking all precautionary measures,” said a spokeswoman for Tourism and Convention Philippines (TCP), the company responsible for the tourism industry.
Touris in the town of El Castillo, about 90 kilometers (60 miles) east of Las Vegas, said they were also in shock when they realized they were in danger.
“Some of our tourists are getting hurt, so it’s very scary.
We had to evacuate our hotel because there was a huge earthquake in that area,” said El Castillero tourist, Francisco Aguilar.
El Castillo resident, Mariana Aguilar, said she thought it was an earthquake, but it was too early to tell.
“What you should do is stay away from the area.
We just don’t know.
We’ve got no idea how big the rock could be,” she said.
